Renaissance-The great period of rebirth in art, literature, and learning in the 14th-16th centuries, which marked the transition into the modern periods of European history

Humanism-A renaissance intellectual movement in which thinkers focused on human potential and achievements

secular-worldly; not pertaining to church matters or religion; temporal

patron-worldly; not pertaining to church matters or religion; temporal

perspective- an artistic technique that creates the appearance of three dimensions on a flat surface

vernacular-the everyday speech of the people 

2) a class of merchants and bankers were becoming wealthy and powerful. They strongly believed in the idea of individual achievement. This was important because they could support the artists and their families. 

3) Renaissance men who excelled in many feilds was praised as a universal man. A young man should be charming, witty, well educated, know how to dance, sing, play music, and write poetry.
